Virus Detection:
Virus DIF- respiratory specimens
Molecular diagnostics:
HIV-1 viral load and Chlamydia DNA detection using Abbott m2000 Real time system
qPCR assay using Rotorgene:
Norovirus in stool specimens
Varicella, Herpes simplex 1&2 and adenovirus in skin lesions, eye swabs
H1N1v (Swine Flu) assay, Influenza A
In addition, specimens are referred to Virus reference division, HPA Colindale for HBV viral load/ genotyping, HEV RNA, HIV proviral DNA, LGV.
Quantitative HCV PCR, CMV, Enterovirus are referred to NPHS Virology Cardiff. CSF specimens referred to NPHS Virology Cardiff.
EBV PCR referred to Bristol HPA
Serology:
The virus serology section detects antibodies to viruses and viral antigens in serum using manual and automated assays. In addition, bacterial antibodies are also detected in this section. Automated machines include Ortho Vitros and ETIMAX.
Syphilis serology, rubella serology (G and M), hepatitis A,B,C serology, HIV antibody and combo assays, CMV serology, Parvovirus serology, VZV serology, EBV, HTLV I/II, Antenatal serology, transplant donor screening.
CFTs for respiratory viruses, Chlamydia, mycoplasma, measles, herpes, mumps, Q fever.
HEV serology and Legionella serology referred to HPA Colindale.
