About us
The HPA north-east regional reference laboratory is one of the principal virology laboratories in the Northern and Yorkshire region. The Laboratory is part of the HPA Regional Microbiology Network (RMN) and UK Clinical Virology network (UK CVN). It is fully CPA accredited. We are currently based at the Newcastle General Hospital site. We work alongside the NHS providing specialist support in diagnostics, communicable disease and infection control, and emergency preparedness including development of diagnostic capabilities for emerging infectious diseases. We provide clinical and specialist reference virology services to the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust and to the outlying District General Hospital Microbiology departments serving the population of north-east of England.
